Heal, love, and integrate all parts of yourself.

IFS therapy and Parts Work rooted in a holistic, experiential, and transpersonal approach to deeper healing and transformation.

Andrea Segal, psychotherapist and IFS therapist

At the heart of my work is the belief that healing is possible.

I approach therapy from a nonpathologizing perspective. I don't view people's struggles as disorders or as evidence that something is wrong with them, nor do I believe that the symptoms and patterns we experience are simply conditions we have to learn to live with and manage forever. I believe they make complete sense when understood in the context of our lives, relationships, wounds, adaptations, and internal systems—and that they can be worked with.

I believe we can approach these experiences with curiosity and compassion and explore what is happening beneath the surface. As we begin to understand the different pieces of what you're experiencing and how they fit together, we can work more directly with what is underneath it all—healing at the root and allowing real change to become possible.

We all contain different parts.

You may already recognize the experience of having different parts of yourself, even if you've never thought about it in those terms.

A part of you may want closeness while another pulls away. One part may desperately want to break an addictive pattern while another still reaches for the relief, escape, or comfort it provides. One part may know exactly what you want while another is afraid to pursue it. You may want to speak up or set a boundary while another part fears the conflict, disappointment, or rejection that might follow.

In Parts Work and IFS, we understand these different sides of you as parts of an internal system, each with its own feelings, beliefs, fears, needs, and ways of trying to help. These parts aren't just concepts or explanations for your behavior—they're aspects of your internal system that we can actually connect with and work with directly.

More than talk therapy

Talking about our experiences, understanding where our symptoms and patterns come from, and feeling deeply witnessed are all important parts of therapy. But insight alone doesn't always create transformation.

You can understand exactly why you become anxious in relationships, why you shut down during conflict, why you're so hard on yourself, or why you turn toward a particular behavior when you're overwhelmed—and still find yourself having the same reaction the next time you're triggered.

Experiential work allows us to go beyond understanding and begin working directly with the parts of you underneath these experiences. Whatever you come in with—an emotion, symptom, trigger, somatic experience, behavior, or recurring pattern—we can use what you're experiencing as an entry point into your internal system.

We can tune into what's happening in your body, allow that felt experience to connect us with the parts involved, and begin to map out what's happening within your system. Rather than guessing or intellectualizing why a part feels or responds the way it does, we can turn toward the part itself and hear directly from it—what it's feeling, what it's afraid of, what it's carrying, and what it needs.

And often, what we hear is surprising. You may have thought about something endlessly, analyzed it from every angle, and feel like you understand exactly why it's happening—only to turn toward the part itself and hear something you never would have thought of. There can be so much more available to us when we listen directly to the parts underneath an experience rather than trying to figure them out from the outside.

A more integrated way of being

As parts begin to feel heard, understood, and cared for, their relationship to you—and to one another—can begin to change.

When parts trust that they can get your attention and that you will listen and respond to them, they no longer have to become louder or take over in the same ways to make themselves heard. Instead of being left alone with old wounds or feeling responsible for protecting you on their own, they can begin to receive the attunement, care, and healing they need.

As parts heal, they don't have to remain stuck in the pain or protective roles they once took on. They can grow, develop, and find new ways of being—bringing their strengths and gifts back into the system rather than devoting so much of their energy to protecting it.

Parts that once seemed to be working against one another can also begin to understand each other's needs and work together. Integration isn't about making one part win and another lose. It's about creating an internal system in which every part belongs, every part matters, and increasingly, all of you can move in the same direction.

This creates greater freedom to live from the wholeness of who you are rather than being governed by old wounds, fears, or protective patterns—to make choices, pursue what matters to you, and relate to yourself and others in ways that feel deeply authentic and aligned.

Hi, I’m Andrea.

Andrea Segal, psychotherapist and coach
Andrea Segal, psychotherapist and coach

I'm a psychotherapist and coach with a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Naropa University, where I studied Mindfulness-Based Transpersonal Counseling and received formal training in Internal Family Systems (IFS).

My career in mental health began through my own healing journey. When I got sober from drugs and alcohol at 24 years old, I began seeking out the most effective modalities for healing the root causes of addiction and other mental health challenges. This led me to discover Inner Child Work, Parts Work, and eventually Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy.

Experiencing the potency of these approaches in my own life gave me an entirely new understanding of healing and ultimately led me to become a therapist so I could share this work with others.

The work I've done with my own parts has fundamentally changed the way I relate to myself, to other people, and to the human experience more broadly. It has deepened my compassion, curiosity, love, and nonjudgment toward all of our parts and the full range of what it means to be human. That orientation shapes the therapeutic space I create—one where whatever arises can be explored openly and without judgment.
